On November 30, 2021, the Club des Dégustateurs des Grands Vins organized a fun wine tasting event featuring wines from the Italian wine region of Abruzzo. The session was hosted by Master of Wine Jacky Blisson.
The first wine we tasted was the Masciarelli Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Interesting salty flavour. Straw yellow colour with greenish glints. Available at the SAQ (code 12635097) at $14.20.
We then moved to a great rosé, the Farnese Fantini Cerasuolo D'Abruzzo , 100% Montepulciano. Great pairing with shrimps or salmon or pasta in rosé sauce. Available at the SAQ (code 13963826) at $14.20.
The third wine was the Gianni Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. With a deep ruby red colour, it’s a great wine with some leathery flavours. Good pairing with meals with mushrooms or lamb. Available at the SAQ (code 13526298) at $19.60.
We then followed with the Corno Grande Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Also with a deep ruby red colour, I loved this wine cherry jam aromas and flavours. Good pairing with meat. Available at the SAQ (code 13911794) at $18.40.
The final wine was the Amorino Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. A deep ruby red colour with aromas of liquorice and hints of pepper, vanilla and chocolate. Flavours of preserved fruits and spices. Available at the SAQ (code 11131778) at $25.40.
