I recently wrote an article on how climate change is affecting the wine industry for iuventum’s newsletter, which focuses on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I also published it on my LinkedIn profile.
Many industries are being affected by climate change, some more dramatically than others. One that is becoming increasingly affected by new weather patterns is the wine industry. We are seeing it this year with the brutal heat waves happening in Europe, particularly in France where many wine regions are suffering the dramatic consequences.
But there is hope. Winemakers have and are noticing the effects and acknowledging actions are needed for their industry to adapt and survive. For example, earlier this year Familia Torres and Jackson Family Wines formed a climate change action group, joining together to create a working group of wineries to help further efforts to decarbonize the wine industry and mitigate the impact of climate change.
Called International Wineries for Climate Action, the organization’s key aim is to bring together the most environmentally committed wineries in the world in order to achieve an 80% reduction of total carbon emissions across the industry by 2045, which it says will help to mitigate and reverse the impacts of climate change.
There will be an interesting international conference on this exact topic in Montreal November 12: Tasting Climage Change – get your tickets today!
Meanwhile, you can read my complete article here: How climate change is affecting the wine industry. Let me know what you think.
