I was happy to attend the Burgundy wines tasting event at the beautiful Grand Quay of the Port of Montreal on June 20. Organized by the Interprofessional Bureau of Burgundy Wines, the event was an opportunity to reunite with 14 great Burgundy Houses, Estates and Wineries and celebrate with amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The tastings had two immersives areas, one dedicated to the Chablis wines and the other to regional appellations of Burgundy. This event highlighted wines from Burgundy less known, "hidden gems", attractive and accessible, offering a very good price-quality-pleasure ratio.
My first stop was at the Domaine d'Ardhuy where I tried their Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru, Les Peuillets, followed by the Côte de Nuits-Villages, Le Clos des Langres, Monopole. The third wine I tried was their Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru, Les Chaillots.
I then visited Les vins Georges Duboeuf where I tasted their 2020 Saint-Véran, followed by their 2019 Chardonnay which is available at the SAQ, and finally their Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru, Le Clos Reyssier 2020.
I moved on to Domaine Henri de Villamont where I started with their Savigny-Lès-Beaune, Le Village followed by their Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru, Clos des Guettes which I loved.
I had a big WOW for the Corton Grand Cru, Château Corton Grancey from Maison Louis Latour. Another big WOW was for the Santenay, Clos du Haut Village from Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume.
My last stop was at the kiosk of regional appellations of Burgundy where I enjoyed the 2018 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune Clos de la Perrière from Domaine Alexandre Parigot. The 2020 vintage is available at the SAQ. I had a big WOW for the Bourgogne Côte d'or from Maison Louis Jadot and another big WOW for the Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise, Clos de Liron from Domaine Michel Sarrazin & Fils.
Finally, my top wine discovered at this wine tasting was the... Gamay from Château de la Greffière, Mâçon Serrières, la Croix.
Do you have a "go-to" wine from Burgundy?
